Having lived in furnished rentals for my entire adult life, I have always slept on whatever old mattress was already living in my room, and happily, I might add. I'm a good sleeper, generally speaking, and so until recently this hasn't been a problem. I'll admit, the slight dip in the middle of my most recent mattress had started to give me a hint of back ache, and more than once I'd wake myself up in the night tossing and turning in an effort to get comfortable (although, the old springs made quite a chime, which also acted like a make-shift alarm). With the prospect of a new, unfurnished, flat looming, I decided it was time to find a mattress worth investing in, and so I turned to Nectar.
The mattresses are good, but we'll get onto that later. As a company, Nectar felt like a good one to pick: all of the mattresses are made in Derbyshire, meaning it employs local workers and has a low carbon footprint when it comes to delivery. Any carbon that is produced by Nectar is offset, so it's carbon neutral, and all of the mattresses are made with ultra-clean foam: there are no heavy metals, nasty dyes or chemicals destined to carve a hole in the ozone layer. Finally, any returned mattresses (there's a 365 day trial) are refurbed, re-sold or donated to the British Heart Foundation. Tick.
It's the ‘Premier Hybrid Mattress’ I opted for, chosen for it's combination of springs and memory foam, and the several breathable cooling layers which promise to keep me - unable to stay cool even on the frostiest of winter nights - at a delightfully comfortable temperature for my required eight hours a night.

Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress: is it worth buying?
The eight (yes, eight!) layers of breathable foam, micro-springs, memory foam and firm support base have proven themselves to be the magical combination. Don't be deceived by the cloud-like top layer, this is a mattress that offers ample support for me and my weary back. For those who favour an ultra-firm mattress this may not be for you, likewise if you prefer a pillow-like softness. This falls somewhere in the middle: it's comfortable, that's for sure, and certainly soft, but with enough memory foam to ensure that your spine is aligned throughout the night, whether you sleep on your side or back.
If you're sharing a bed with a wriggler, you're safe in the knowledge that you'll stay sound asleep, thanks to the responsive ‘encapsulated springs’ hidden deep within the mattress. If it's staying cool that's your problem, look no further–hot summer nights are no match for the breathable top three layers on the Premier Hybrid. They're designed to promote air circulation and draw heat away from your body.

Delivery was ultra-quick: 2 days from order to delivery. You can pick the day, and they'll send you a three-hour delivery slot the day before. I even received Whatsapps telling me when it was nearby. The mattress arrives vacuum packed into a large box. You're advised to open it slowly and carefully, giving it 3-5 hours to expand fully. It'll reach full size within 48 hours, but you can sleep on it after 3-5.
Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress verdict
What a delight. You never know how much you need a new mattress until you get one, and this was certainly a good choice. A full night worth of comfortable, cool sleep (on a hot summer's night, I might add).
